After deciding to finally start, the first thing I needed was the right tools and a space I could actually work in.
On my list: a reliable printer, a cutting machine, and some key furniture. Truth be told, the list was much longer, but I had to prioritise the essentials to kickstart my workspace. I knew I will be spending long hours here, so it needed to be both functional and a place I genuinely enjoyed being in.
The research phase took over my life for a while. I went from store to store, from Challenger, Harvey Norman, Best Denki, comparing specs, and reading endless online reviews. I even found myself calling customer hotlines just to ask more questions. It was overwhelming. Sometimes I couldn’t help but think, we are so fortunate to live in a world where we’re spoiled by endless choices… and yet, that can make deciding even harder.
Then one day at Challenger, VivoCity, I met someone who completely changed my journey in finding the “right” printer. I never got her name, but she patiently listened to what I needed, explained every detail clearly, and reassured me I was making the right choice. It sounds small, but that kind of human kindness made a huge difference in what had been a stressful process.
Once the big purchases were sorted, only upon delivery, I realised things didn't make sense.

The deliveries came in bit by bit. Each unboxing was exciting, but it quickly made me realise I couldn’t just plan for the essentials. I also had to make the space practical. That’s when I pulled out my sketch pad and started drawing the eventual look of my “office wall.” With only one wall to work with, I had to be smart.

The goal was to create a functional workstation that also matched the theme of my home. Finding pieces that fit both criteria wasn’t easy. I looked high and low for the right furniture and home essentials, and when I finally found them, I knew it was worth it. Then came the most crucial part measurements. With so little space, every centimetre mattered. I lost count of how many times I re-measured, especially when a new delivery made me realise I needed something else to better organise the space. That sketch became my visual guide, helping me make sure everything would fit and flow.
If only everything I ordered could appear with a single click… how wonderful that would be and my reogranising of my space would have been so much easier.
THOUGHTS
Every delivery felt like a small milestone, filled with decisions, hair-pulling moments, delays, and a lot of measuring tape. Seeing my workspace come together was the first sign that this idea wasn’t just living in my head anymore. It was real, and it was mine. For now, you can check out my before-and-after photos and unboxing videos over on Instagram, where I’m capturing this journey in real time and sharing more stories!
Thank you for reading. It means a lot to me that you’re here at the end.
Stay tuned to see how my journey unfolds one small setup at a time.
